    Scaling language competition in a small island state : graphic verbs in Seychellois Creole and English

    One of the sensitive aspects of a small country is the predicament of its language. Seychellois Creole, one of that country`s three official languages and the native language of its Creole population, is asserting its linguistic identity against the globally-established English and French, the other two official languages of the country. How resilient is Seychellois Creole in this language triangle? Are the challenges it faces related to the small number of speakers, citizens of the small country? To what extent, and in what particular way, does Seychellois Creole vulnerable position, as a small language neighboured by two international languages, affect its development? These questions are approached in this paper by means of the comparative analysis of some linguistic parameters of Seychellois Creole and English. Research has been carried out with a group of English and Seychellois Creole verbs conceptualizing the process of graphic representation. The paper focuses on the capacity of the two contrasted languages for concept lexicalisation, patterns of semantic development and syntactic shifting.peer-reviewe

    Twitterverse: The birth of new words

    New words are continuously being coined on Twitter, which is regarded as a means of creating and distributing new words, concepts and ideas. Our research focuses on the way Twitter's apt naming has become one of the richest sources of brand-related word-formation. The current study has identified various productive patterns of new Twitter word-formation, such as affixation, compounding, blending, abbreviation and the powerful mechanism of lexical analogy. We have also identified the most common models used in coining new units of each type. The creation of new Twitter words has various functions and effects: establishing a closer social connection; jocular/mocking function; novelty and originality; desire to follow fashion; and denominative/labelling function. We conclude that in the era of an ever-growing amount of data, the popularity of Twitter has become a breeding ground for new brand-related words that have enriched the modern English vocabulary

    Transnational organized corruption as a factor of social instability.

    The article examines the scale of involvement of Transnational Organized Criminal Groups (TOCG) in committing acts of corruption, and their related criminal cooperation with Transnational Corporations (TNCs) 1 , as well as public relations in this sphere, in particular on the example of Ukraine. It suggests a solution to the problem of transnational corruption crime, in particular, applying the theory of social naturalism. The ultimate goal of the article is to analyze the problem of transnational corruption as a "factor of social instability" and to introduce this term into scientific circulation in this context. The article uses such methods of scientific knowledge as induction and deduction, as well as philosophical and phenomenological methods. According to research, the mafia now operates on the same scale and as effectively as global corporate groups. Corporations can be compared with the governments of states in terms of their influence on the economy of the state and the adoption of appropriate decisions. The authors state that the measures taken by individual states to counter the pressure of powerful TNCs have not yet led to the achievement of these goals. Financial and industrial elites, in turn, with the help of TOCG, try to impose their own order on societies that are not yet ready due to differences in culture, history, laws, social order, mentality, etc. It is emphasized in the article that the level of transnational organized crime and corruption cannot yet be significantly reduced in local societies due to the fact that the goals of elites and certain states simply do not coincide. Nowadays we can note a significant number of symptoms, in particular - the existence of such a phenomenon as transnational corruption, which indicates that we have a crisis of social order in the world. The corruption used by the TNCs is a mandatory feature that allows, among other features, to distinguish transnational organized crime from other types of criminal activity. We can note such a feature of TOCG as a criminal symbiosis with TNCs, which is considered as a violation of public order that leads to a corresponding regression. Progress in minimizing transnational corruption can be achieved, in particular, with the help of social naturalism, through the application of the postulates of which it is possible to counteract the current manifestations of willfulness and illusions that exist today in all spheres of social life, including politics, economics, morality, religion, science, art, law, etc. The study proves that in the modern world, against the background of progressive changes, namely the development of new information technologies, in the economy, etc., there have been formed some trends in transnational crime including corruption that continue to deepen further and the given corruption indicates the phenomenon, which the authors define as a "factor of social instability"

    Digital Interoperability of Foreign Languages Education

    The focus of the inquiry is on the analysis of multipurpose, universal and interdisciplinary digitally enhances skillsets for stakeholders of European and Oriental Languages HEI programs in Ukraine in the timeframe of COVID-19 emergency digitization measures of March 2020 to October 2021. The study highlights a broad spectrum of issues, relevant for the global social and educational context: changes of the interdisciplinary avenues of development of digital education in the COVID-19 and post-pandemic paradigm; transformations of the network society and education in the digital age; the ratio of personal experiences and anticipations, challenges and technical advances that inform quality assessment of online and hybrid educational formats in emergency digitization context. The study introduces a computational framework of digital interoperability and interdisciplinarity of foreign languages education. The empirical data is collected through a survey that served to assess the digitally enhanced dimensions of interdisciplinarity, facilitated by the interoperable nature of correlation between digital communication skills and soft skills in Foreign Languages Education.У центрі уваги дослідження є аналіз багатоцільового, універсального а міждисциплінарний цифровий розширює набори навичок для зацікавлених сторін програм ВНЗ з європейських та східних мов в Україні в терміни надзвичайних заходів з оцифрування COVID-19 Березень 2020 – жовтень 2021.     Morphological characteristics and determination of volatile organic compounds of Diospyros virginiana L. genotypes fruits

    The aim of this study was to determine morphometric differences of fruits and seeds between 19 selected American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana L.) genotypes. The genotypes of American persimmon have been growing more than 15 years in Forest-Steppe of Ukraine in the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of NAS of Ukraine. They are well adapted to the climatic and soil conditions. The fruits were collected at the period of their full maturity (October). The population differs in a weight, shape, size and color of fruits and seeds. Their morphometric parameters were following: fruit weight from 2.30 to 81.30 g, fruit length from 8.84 to 49.73 mm, fruit width from 12.84 to 55.34 mm, seed weight from 0.1 to 1.0 g, seed length from 8.30 to 20.88 mm, fruit width from 7.04 to 14.88 mm, seed thickness from 1.98 to 7.09 mm and number of seeds in the fruit from 1 to 8. Partenocarpic fruits are found in some genotypes. The shape indexes of fruits and seeds were found ranging from 0.74 to 1.10 and from 1.01 to 1.77, respectively. During the analysis of qualitative composition and quantitative content of volatiles of fruits from the 4 perspective genotypes of Diospyros virginiana 106 compounds were detected. From them 83 compounds were identified. The identified compounds belong to alcohols, saturated and unsaturated aldehydes, ketons, fatty acids, esters, terpenoids etc. The fruits are rich in fat acids. The outcome of the research points to the fact that the genepool of Ukrainian Diospyros virginiana is a rich source of genetic diversity and might be used in selection for creation a new genotypes and cultivars

    Variation in morphometric traits of fruits of Mespilus germanica L.

    According to the International Program for the Botanic Gardens Conservation, botanic gardens contribute to the conservation plant species, which are of great socio-economic importance, and develop and implement a policy to use herbal products derived from sustainably developing sources. The aim of this study was to determine morphometric parameters of fruits of seven genotypes of Mespilus germanica L., which are growing in the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine in M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv). Their morphometric parameters were following: fruit weight from 35.29 to 39.12 g, fruit length from 27.69 to 42.29 mm, fruit diameter from 24.98 to 44.75 mm, length of calyx basin from 17.55 to 32.46 mm. The shape index of the fruits was found in the range of 0.79 to 1.23. It was found that fruit diameter positively correlated with traits such as fruit weight and calyx basin length. Fruit weight was also highly correlated with calyx basin length and fruit length. Using the cluster analysis with Euclidian distances allowed to establish the relationships among the fruits Mespilus germanica germplasm and arranged the genotypes into five relatively homogenous clusters. Hence, the introduction population characterized by quite variability and contains plants with almost all types of fruits. Obtained data can be used for breeding programs and introducing of cultivars in Mespilus germanica. <!--[endif] --

    Variation of fruits morphometric parameters and bioactive compounds of Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal germplasm collection

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphological parameters and bioactive compounds (antioxidant activity, total polyphenol, flavonoid, and phenolic acid content) of 6 genotypes of dry Asimina triloba (L.) fruit from Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (Slovakia). Genotypes were obtained from the seeds that were sown in the year 2000. Their morphometric parameters were following: fruit weight from 59.00 to 241.19 g, fruit length from 50.14 to 140.11 mm, fruit diameter from 37.55 to 64.67 mm, number of fruits per cluster from 2 to 8, seed weight from 0.06 to 1.80 g, seed length from 16.33 to 29.11 mm, seed width from 9.56 to 18.33 mm, seed thickness from 4.98 to 9.75 mm, number of seeds in fruit from 4 to 16. The shape indexes of fruits were found ranging from 1.53 to 2.16. The variability of important is the average seeds weight from 7.40 to 35.61%, fruit weight from 14.84 to 32.95%, number of fruits per cluster from 18.21 to 32.54% and a number of seeds in fruit from 13.49 to 27.72%. The other characteristics are more or less stable. Total polyphenol content ranged from 22.13 to 37.36 mg GAE per g, total flavonoid content from 15.10 to 32.03 mg QE per g and phenolic acids content from 0.23 to 0.76 mg CAE per g. All tested samples exhibited DPPH radical scavenging activities with values from 2.84 to 7.04 mg TEAC per g. Antioxidant activity by molybdenum reducing antioxidant power method ranged from 97.25 to 275.41 mg TEAC per g of dry matter. Differences between the genotypes were significant in all observed parameters. This species is potential for propagation and practice used in the Slovak Republic

    Визначення особливостей динамічної навантаженості контейнерів-цистерн при перевезенні на залізничному поромі

    Simulation of the dynamic load of the tank container when transported as part of a combined train on a rail ferry is carried out. Mathematical models taking into account possible interactions of tank containers with the frame of flat cars are developed. Calculations are made for the tank container of 1CS type size placed on the 13-4012M flat car. It is taken into account that the transportation of the tank container is carried out on the “Geroi Shipki” type rail ferry by the Black Sea. It is found that the greatest acceleration acts on the tank container in case of displacement of the flat car relative to the deck and the tank container relative to the frame. The total value of acceleration is about 0.9g.The stability of the tank container when transported by rail ferry is investigated. Permissible roll angles of the rail ferry that ensure the stability of the tank container relative to the flat car frame are calculated.Computer simulation of the dynamic load of the tank container when transported by rail ferry is carried out. The calculation is made in the CosmosWorks software environment. The fields and numerical values of the accelerations acting on the tank container are determined. The developed models are verified by the F-criterion.The research will help to provide safety and to make recommendations on sea transportation of combined trains by rail ferries, as well as to design tank containers with improved technical-economic, strength and environmental characteristics.Проведено моделирование динамической нагруженности контейнера-цистерны при перевозке в составе комбинированного поезда на железнодорожном пароме. Разработаны математические модели, учитывающие возможные варианты взаимодействия контейнеров-цистерн с рамой вагонов-платформ. Расчеты проведены относительно контейнера-цистерны типоразмера 1СС, размещенного на вагоне-платформе модели 13-4012М. Учтено, что перевозка контейнера-цистерны осуществляется на железнодорожном пароме "Герои Шипки" акваторией Черного моря. Установлено, что наибольшая величина ускорений действует на контейнер-цистерну в случае наличия перемещений вагона-платформы относительно палубы и контейнера-цистерны относительно рамы. Общая величина ускорения при этом составила около 0,9g.Исследована устойчивость контейнера-цистерны при перевозке на железнодорожном пароме. Рассчитаны допустимые углы крена железнодорожного парома, при которых обеспечивается устойчивость контейнера-цистерны относительно рамы вагона-платформы.Проведено компьютерное моделирование динамической нагруженности контейнера-цистерны при перевозке на железнодорожном пароме. Расчет проведен в среде программного обеспечения CosmosWorks. Определены поля и численные значения ускорений, действующих на контейнер-цистерну. Осуществлена проверка адекватности разработанных моделей по F-критерию.Проведенные исследования будут способствовать обеспечению безопасности и созданию рекомендаций по перевозкам комбинированных поездов на железнодорожных паромах морем, а также проектированию контейнеров-цистерн с улучшенными технико-экономическими, прочностными и экологическими характеристикамиПроведено моделювання динамічної навантаженості контейнера-цистерни при перевезенні у складі комбінованого поїзда на залізничному поромі. Загальна величина прискорення при цьому склала близько 0,9g.Досліджено стійкість контейнера-цистерни при перевезенні на залізничному поромі. Розраховано допустимі кути крену залізничного порому, при яких забезпечується стійкість контейнера-цистерни відносно рами вагона-платформи.Проведено комп’ютерне моделювання динамічної навантаженості контейнера-цистерни при перевезенні на залізничному поромі.
